Your chats stay local.

What Ahoy There! does

Ahoy There! exchanges encrypted messages, attachments, group events and optional in-range information directly between nearby devices. There is no Ahoy There! account, advertising profile, analytics service, telemetry service or chat server.

Information on your phone

Your sailor name, remembered groups, room passkeys, local app identity, block and mute choices, recent private-room messages, shared events and settings are stored in the app's private storage. Android Keystore protects sensitive identity and event keys.

Nearby permissions

Android requires nearby-device permissions to discover and communicate with other phones. Older Android versions may require Location permission for Wi-Fi Direct discovery. Ahoy There! does not use GPS to track your physical location.

Photos and documents

Android's system photo and document pickers give the app access only to files you choose. Received files are stored in private app storage until you open or remove the app's data.

Your choices

You can stop sharing or displaying in-range information independently, mute public-chat participants, and leave or delete app data through Android settings. A group leader can remove or block an app identity from a private group.
